2014 building materials home industry scale or more than 400 billion

On June 10, 2014, the first *China Building Materials and Home Industry Development Report* was officially launched at the inaugural China Building Materials and Home Industry Development Conference held in Beijing. This marked a significant milestone as it was the first comprehensive statistical report, analysis, and forecast on the industry, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China Building Decoration Association. The report is of great importance, offering scientific support and theoretical guidance for government departments in shaping industrial policies and strategies. It also serves as a valuable resource for companies to develop their research and market strategies. As a national-level association under the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the China Building Decoration Association plays a crucial role in leading, promoting, standardizing, and supporting the building materials and home industry. Given the complexity of the sector—characterized by a wide range of products, rapid innovation, and shifting consumer demands—it became essential to produce an authoritative and comprehensive industry report. With the support of government agencies, industry organizations, and professionals, the China Building Decoration Association Materials Committee spent over six months compiling and finalizing the *2013 China Building Materials and Home Industry Development Report*, which was then released to the public. In 2014, the building materials and home industry is expected to exceed 400 billion yuan in scale. The 2013 report includes several key sections: the "General Report," "Special Report," "Memorabilia," and various data charts. It not only summarizes the developments and progress of the industry in 2013 but also provides in-depth insights into future trends based on broader economic and social changes. The "General Report" highlights the major achievements and challenges faced by the industry in 2013, while the "Special Report" focuses on critical issues such as building decoration, stone, furniture, sanitary ceramics, lighting, coatings, and more. These analyses offer practical guidance and theoretical value for industry stakeholders. The "Memorabilia" section reviews the key events of the year, while the report also outlines four major characteristics of the industry's development. First, the industry continues to expand in scale. In 2013, the total market size reached 3.724 trillion yuan, with specific segments like furniture (680 billion), wood-based boards (495.32 billion), ceramics (432.2 billion), doors and windows (364 billion), and others contributing significantly. The report forecasts that the market will reach 4.071 trillion yuan in 2014. Second, the industrial structure is constantly evolving and upgrading. A large percentage of enterprises operate across multiple business areas, reflecting a trend toward deeper market penetration and more specialized divisions. Third, industrial clusters are forming rapidly, with provinces like Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu dominating the market. These clusters are expanding geographically, moving from coastal regions to inland areas. Fourth, there is a growing shortage of skilled and cross-disciplinary talents. Over 89% of enterprises identify the lack of high-level talent as a major challenge, with demand for senior technicians, designers, and managers increasing significantly. This shortage is expected to remain a pressing issue in the coming years.
