It is advisable to exercise for half an hour every day.

A recent study conducted in Norway has revealed that older men who exercise for 30 minutes a day, six days a week, have a 40% lower risk of death compared to their more sedentary counterparts—often referred to as the "soap potato chip" group. This finding highlights the significant impact of regular physical activity on longevity, even among the elderly. The research, led by Professor Holm from the Norwegian Academy of Sports Science, followed a group of men born between 1923 and 1932. Starting in 1972, researchers surveyed 15,000 participants and conducted physical exams. Many also provided detailed lifestyle information. By 2000, 12,700 of these men were still alive, and about 5,700 agreed to continue in the study. By 2011, only 3,600 of those original 5,700 remained. Despite their advanced age, the results showed a remarkable difference in mortality rates linked to consistent exercise habits. In an article published in the *British Journal of Sports Medicine* in May, the researchers emphasized that even moderate daily exercise can significantly reduce the risk of death. Whether it's light or intense activity, the key is consistency. Those who maintained regular physical routines, including more vigorous exercises several times a week, lived longer than those who remained inactive over a five-year period. This long-term study not only underscores the importance of staying active but also challenges the common belief that it's too late to start exercising in old age. The findings suggest that even small, regular efforts can lead to meaningful health benefits and increased lifespan.
