On June 26, 2015, in Bromsgrove, UK, a group of young and determined explorers embarked on an extraordinary mission. Dylan, a 12-year-old, and his younger brother Oscar Rees, just 9 years old, along with their father Oliver, a 43-year-old enthusiast, launched a homemade space experiment. Their goal was to send a small, one-kilogram payload into the stratosphere as part of a major space research initiative.
The project, which traveled over 80,000 miles into space, used helium balloons as the main lifting force. The team carefully prepared the equipment, attaching a camera and a mobile phone to track its location throughout the journey. To protect the camera from the extreme cold of high altitude, they used a makeup mirror to reflect sunlight and an insulated bag to keep it warm.
This unique experiment not only captured stunning footage but also demonstrated the power of curiosity and innovation. It was a proud moment for the family, proving that even with limited resources, big dreams can take flight. The success of the mission inspired many young people to explore science, technology, and the wonders of space.
