Fonon Introduces Customizable Metal 3D Printing System

[China Packaging Network News] Recently, Fonton, a leading manufacturer of laser equipment, has officially expanded its business into the metal 3D printing industry. The company is now offering additive manufacturing solutions that feature advanced fiber laser technology, allowing for precise control over product density and significantly reducing build times. Fiber lasers, which use rare-earth-doped glass fibers as their gain medium, are known for their efficiency and precision. Fonton's Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) technology addresses common issues in metal 3D printing, such as laser power fluctuations that can negatively impact the quality of the final product. Their high-frequency lasers provide a more uniform energy distribution, ensuring consistent melting of metal powders during the printing process and eliminating unwanted variations. Typically, higher-power lasers may lead to larger spot sizes, which can make it harder to maintain tight tolerances during the build process, even though they might offer faster printing speeds. However, Fonton’s 1KW laser system boasts a 95% retraction capability, giving users greater flexibility. This allows for faster print speeds while maintaining control over the beam spot size at critical points, improving overall print quality and consistency. The build platform on Fonton’s machines is equipped with the company’s proprietary Scalable Reach technology, which expands the printing area from 500 x 500mm up to an impressive 4000 x 2000mm—far surpassing the standard 250 x 250mm platforms found in many other systems. This enhanced range makes the machine suitable for large-scale industrial applications, including the production of automotive engine molds, turbine blades, and mass manufacturing systems. Fonton also claims that its process helps reduce the consumption of inert gases, which are commonly used in metal 3D printing to prevent oxidation. Additionally, the system is designed to define optimal laser power settings for different applications, further enhancing efficiency and performance. “We develop all our 3D direct metal printing systems based on the specific needs of our customers,” said Fonton. “Our goal is to deliver the highest possible performance for complex designs, components, and applications. Our technology helps optimize the usage of costly nanopowders, reduce inert gas flow rates, improve surface finish, minimize powder fill volume in the build chamber, and ultimately lower the overall cost of the system.” Fonton’s 3D direct metal printing systems are versatile and find applications across multiple industries, including automotive, aerospace, industrial manufacturing, defense, electronics, semiconductors, flat panel displays, and medical devices. The company offers both standard 3D material processing systems and custom laser-based conversion solutions tailored to meet the unique demands of each client.
