This August, Hengyang will host the 10th National Games, the 18th Hunan Provincial Games, and the 13th Games. With the event approaching, how are the preparations progressing? Recently, Duan Zhigang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Hengyang Municipal Committee and Executive Deputy Mayor, conducted an inspection to ensure everything is on track.
On April 10th, Duan Zhigang led an on-site visit to the gymnasium and swimming pool construction sites. These two facilities are part of the second phase of the Hengyang Sports Center, with a total investment of 250 million yuan and a total area of about 30,000 square meters. So far, approximately 113 million yuan has been invested. The gymnasium's masonry work is nearly complete, with 70% of the roof panels installed and 30% of the first-floor painting done. Curtain wall keels have also been set up. Meanwhile, the main swimming pool’s masonry work is finished, and the main truss has been lifted by 7 inches.
Duan emphasized that the 10th National Games is not only a test of Hengyang’s sports achievements but also a key opportunity to promote the national fitness initiative and develop sports talents. He called for top-tier venue construction, excellent organization, competitive results, cultural atmosphere, and a strong city image. All stadiums must be completed by mid-July, and all competition events should be finalized by the end of April. The games aim to combine competition, mass participation, and aesthetic value.
He also highlighted the significance of hosting the 13th Provincial Games in boosting local sports development, accelerating urban construction, and improving citizens’ overall civility. In the coming days, he urged officials to refine the overall plan, venue layout, and preparation strategies. Every aspect, from stadium construction to training and fundraising, must be carefully managed. The goal is to promote national fitness and improve the city environment while enhancing operational and scheduling mechanisms. The ultimate aim is to make the 13th Provincial Games the best in Hunan’s history.
