Boutique: exquisite 3D printed tableware in Czech Cubism style

Although 3D printing technology is a current technology, there are some designers who connect it to the past in some way. Recently, Czech furniture company Lauriger has launched a new series of cutlery, trying to reproduce the country's once brilliant censor style with 3D printing .

Czech cubism mainly appeared between 1912 and 1914, an art movement influenced by the then Cubist artists Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso. In order to use the abstract, geometric elements of the two painters' works in sculpture or architecture. For example, the famous House of the Black Madonna in Prague.

In order to revitalize and pay tribute to the art movement, Lauriger commissioned Czech architect Svetlana Koenová to design a set of cutlery Lilia that can be associated with the cubist style. In the production of this work, Koenová combines modern crafts such as digital design and 3D printing technology with more traditional porcelain technology.

In order to complete the project, Koenová used the design software to design the shape of each cutlery, and then used 3D printing technology to make the mold for each one. To make porcelain, she collaborated with a local porcelain manufacturer in Dubi u Teplic. Dubi u Teplic is a Czech city with a history of 300 years of ceramics production.

It is understood that this cubist-style tableware includes teacups, saucers, bowls, plates and receptacles with standard geometric shapes, and the design pattern also refers to the shape of the lily. Koenová explains: “I am always deeply influenced by geometric shapes. Therefore, when designing this Lilia series, my idea is to pick out the important elements of Cubism – beautiful geometric patterns and complex shapes, and then Naturally beautiful lilies are combined."

In addition, the Lilia tableware uses only one color, white, because Koenová believes that this neutral and minimalist color will help to emphasize the beauty of each piece of tableware. Obviously, she got the effect she wanted.

“For designers, the uniqueness of the entire collection is not the individual design of each piece,” she explains. “Every bowl, cup, and plate in the Lilia suite can be seamlessly combined in a variety of ways to create an infinitely changing pattern. For me, this is the beauty of Czech cubism, the geometry of which, It is the most important part of this beauty." The current Lilia tableware is on sale at Lauriger's website.
