New materials with both glass ceramic and metal properties are available

Tested by the National Building Materials Testing Center, this glass-ceramic tube has a flexural strength of 192 MPa (metallic properties), acid resistance greater than 99%, alkali resistance greater than 97%, Mohs strength close to diamond reaching grade 9, wear resistance Each square centimeter is less than 0.04 grams, and the bulk density is 3.2 grams per cubic centimeter. Baiyun Ebo Mine is a multi-metal symbiotic iron ore with rare earths characteristics. Baotou Steel produces 7 million tons of tailings each year, and at the same time emits more than 4 million tons of steel slag and iron slag, which contains a certain amount of rare earth, niobium, iron and other metal elements . Li Baowei, a professor at Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology, led the research team to set up a laboratory for the comprehensive utilization of polymetallic resources in Inner Mongolia Baiyun Ebo Mine in 2004 to study the preparation of high-performance glass-ceramics from Baiyun Ebo tailings, fly ash and other solid wastes. The research found that the iron, niobium, rare earth, and fluorite remaining in the tailings, steel slag, and iron slag of Baiyun Ebo can be used as a composite crystal nucleus agent, complementary to silicon, calcium, and aluminum in fly ash, to meet the basic composition requirements of glass ceramic .

Since 2009, the research group has prepared glass-ceramics by melt-centrifugal casting method, conducted process control research on glass-ceramic nano-grains, designed formulas, conducted experiments, and explored the preparation of iron, niobium, rare earth and other elements in glass-ceramics The comprehensive action mechanism in the process, detailed study of annealing, crystallization heat treatment system and glass softening, crystallization system and other comprehensive process parameters, and established the relationship between various process parameters and glass-ceramic deformation defects.
