Tsinghua University Academy of Fine Arts Constructs Campus Network
User profile
The predecessor of the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University was the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, founded in 1956. Approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, on November 20, 1999, the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts was formally incorporated into Tsinghua University and renamed the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University. At present, it is the largest in China, with complete professional settings and excellent teaching conditions. The comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and high-level advanced art design and fine arts colleges that integrate creative design, theoretical research, and social practice have important influences at home and abroad.
The college now has nine departments, and all disciplines have the right to award bachelor and master degrees. The college has a large number of famous art educators, art designers and scholars. Since the reform and opening up, teachers and students have won more than 200 international and domestic awards. More than 300 textbooks and academic monographs have been published. More than 100 special teaching films and audio-visual lectures have been broadcast on the Central and Beijing TV stations. More than 200 major artistic designs between the country and the world.
Network construction needs
After the School of Arts and Crafts was merged into Tsinghua University, it put forward higher requirements for teaching, management and scientific research. The network platform that is the basis of the school ’s modern office and teaching is relatively backward and has become an important factor preventing the development of the school. After that, Tsinghua University first constructed and transformed the campus network of the School of Arts and Crafts.
The College of Arts and Crafts has special requirements for the application of the network. Graphic retrieval and image transmission are the main contents of the college's network application, so the transmission quality and bandwidth requirements of the network are very high. At the same time, the expanded network should adapt to the trend of the latest network technology development, the backbone needs to be able to realize the Gigabit redundancy design, and the network transmission must have a perfect end-to-end quality of service (QoS) guarantee system. More importantly, the expanded network should be able to achieve high-speed access to the headquarters network of Tsinghua University and perform unified network management, so that the resources of Tsinghua University can be fully utilized to drive the rapid development of the Academy of Arts and Crafts.
Technical solution
After a detailed analysis of the school's network requirements, we decided to use a stable, reliable, and easy-to-maintain three-level star topology in this solution. From the access layer to the core layer, 3Com's Gigabit Ethernet equipment is used, so that all The performance of the network is optimal.
In the network center, we chose two 3Com core backbone switches Switch 4007 for trunking, connecting to form the core of the network. The two Switch 4007 are connected to the convergence layer nodes of the teaching building, the craft building, the administrative building and the student dormitory through Gigabit optical fiber, respectively, forming the backbone of the Gigabit network.
The aggregation layer uses 3Com's Gigabit switch SuperStack 3 Switch 4900SX, which has full wire-speed routing and switching capabilities, which is specifically suitable for SME network cores and server cluster systems, and is connected to the edge switches SuperStack 3 Switch on each floor through Gigabit fiber 4400. Through the full use of SuperStack 3 Switch 4900SX full wire-speed non-blocking routing forwarding performance, it eliminates the user's connection bottleneck and effectively reduces the routing pressure of the core switch.
At the access layer, we selected SuperStack 3 Switch 4400, the latest full line speed, intelligent workgroup switch from 3Com. The device has 8.8G backplane bandwidth, 6.6Mpps full wire-speed switching capability and rich interface features. Each stacking unit can support up to 192 10 / 100M Ethernet interfaces, and can achieve full wire speed in any configuration. 2. Non-blocking forwarding, which effectively guarantees the access bandwidth of end users, and truly realizes 100M switching to the desktop.
The server cluster switch uses 3Com SuperStack 3 Switch 4900, and configures two Gigabit fiber modules to connect two core switches Switch 4007, which increases the bandwidth and provides link redundancy.
