Nanoplastics will become the most promising nanomaterial

After more than 10 years of research and exploration, Chinese scientists have developed a series of "surprising" nano-plastics that not only add new members to the plastics family, but also make nano-industrialization a reality in our country.
The “nano” added in nano plastics is a kind of natural nano-material of montmorillonite produced in China. State Key Laboratory of Engineering Plastics, Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, uses intercalation and compounding technology to uniformly disperse such natural clay minerals produced in China into polymers, thereby forming nano-plastics. After exploration, we have developed a series of nano-plastics based on polyamide, polyethylene, polystyrene, epoxy resin, silicone rubber, etc., to achieve the industrial production of some nano-plastics, and won 5 invention patents.
The test results show that nano-plastics exhibit excellent physical and mechanical properties, high strength, good heat resistance, and low specific gravity. At the same time, because the nanoparticle size is smaller than the wavelength of visible light, nanoplastics show good transparency and high gloss. The wear resistance of some materials is 27 times that of brass and 7 times that of steel.
It is reported that due to low oxygen permeability, some of the nano-plastics also have self-extinguishing properties of flame-retardant; excellent processing performance, especially the successful development of injection grade nano-ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, solved the international problems of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene processing. Nanoplastics have broad application prospects in various high-performance pipes, automotive and mechanical parts, electronic and electrical parts, and also apply to packaging materials for beer cans, meat and cheese products. ”
These scientific research achievements have been applied to the Beijing Olympics project. Zhang Lide, a research scientist at the national 973-nanometer field, said: "Nano-plastics will be one of the most promising nano-technologies for industrialization in China."
