Lubricant selection

Lubricating materials for printing and related machinery are mainly grease (snow oil) and lubricating oil (motor oil). The printing machinery also needs to use different types of lubricants depending on the requirements of various mechanical parts. Such as chain oil, Air pump oil or gearbox oil and so on.

The selection of high quality lubricants can be referenced and compared from its characteristics such as viscosity, oxidation resistance, abrasion resistance, and water separation.

Viscosity

Viscosity is one of the properties of lubricating oils. It is measured based on the fluidity of the oil at constant temperature. Most of the world's oils are graded by SAE or ISO. The commonly used viscosity oils such as No. 68, 150 and 320 in the printing press are classified by ISO. The higher the number is, the higher the viscosity is. [Viscosity Index] is the rate of change of the viscosity of a lubricant over a known temperature range. Oils with a low viscosity index show a corresponding large change in viscosity with temperature. Conversely, high viscosity index oils show a Small change in viscosity with temperature. Lubricants In the circulating lubrication system of the printing press, it is necessary to take away and cool the heat generated by the friction from the various components. Therefore, the choice of [high viscosity index] of the lubricating oil can maintain viscosity stability, which will greatly help the printing press to reduce the heat and extend the life of the press.

Antioxidant

Lubricants are complex hydrocarbons. When exposed to air and heat, the class slowly combines with the oxygen in the air to change its chemical nature, resulting in unsuitable co-lubricating applications. The slow combination of oil and oxygen becomes oxidation, and the product is called an oxide. It is not difficult for the printing machinery to change the lubricating oil, it is not difficult to find that the tar oil changed and the new oil is greatly changed when injected, and the impurities found in the oil septum are more sure that the lubricating oil has lost its Normal lubrication function due to oxidation. Choosing a high anti-oxidant oil can extend the oil change time, reduce the erosion of the mechanical seals, and reduce the oil leakage of the printer. Because the oxidized engine oil becomes acid and the seal hardens, the possibility of oil leakage from the printing machine increases.

Anti-wear

If we put two blisters of iron on the surface and then force the top iron away, we might need 15 pounds of force; if we add a little lubricating oil between the two iron surfaces, maybe It only takes 2.5 pounds to pull it apart; we therefore say that [the oil reduces the friction between the iron pieces]. Under the high-power microscope, the contact surfaces of the two iron blocks actually exhibit numerous small peaks and valleys to pinch each other to prevent them from sliding freely. If there is oil between them, the valley is filled and the containment of each other is lifted. The top iron can easily slide off the bottom one. This phenomenon is enough to show that the lubricant reduces wear, and the additive contained in the high anti-wear lubricant is more able to fully fill the [small peak valley] on the metal, so that the parts are more adequately protected. Second, through the reduction of friction, the components in the printing press have a longer service life.

Waterborne

If the water is mixed into the lubricating oil, the emulsion will be generated, and the lubrication performance will be poor. The water-borne lubricant can be automatically separated from the water after being mixed with water and rested for a period of time. This property is called anti-emulsification, and the rapid separation of oil and water means that the lubricant has good anti-emulsification properties and vice versa. When the lubricating oil is agitated and pumped in the printing press, the moisture in the air is combined with the lubricating oil, resulting in a poorly lubricious emulsion. Choosing a high water-removal lubricant will allow adequate protection of the components in the machine and reduce the chance of oxidation.

The above lubricating oil characteristic data can be referenced and compared by the specifications of the lubricating oils provided by major oil companies. The use of relatively high-quality lubricating oils can certainly bring long-term and maximum production benefits to the [financial tools] of manufacturers. !
