Major beverage companies are rapidly attacking the South African beverage market. The Coca-Cola Company and Nestlé have all started to purchase non-carbonated beverages, fruit juices, sports drinks, iced tea, bottled water and other beverage companies in South Africa.

It is estimated that by 2008 Coca-Cola’s market share in South Africa will increase to 7.6%.

The bank estimates that the total domestic sales of beverages in South Africa have reached 4 billion liters. Take ice tea as an example. From 2001 to 2002, the market demand for iced tea has doubled. Bottled water is also popular with young people.
